Privacy Policy
We care about your privacy. nowhere works without accounts, profiles, or permanent identities, and we only collect what the app needs to function. Here is exactly what that means.
Information we collect
- Precise location: nowhere is a proximity chat, so while you use the app your device sends us your location to show you messages from people nearby and to show your messages to them. That is the only reason we use it.
- Device identifiers: we use a randomly generated identifier for your installation, and your device's push token if you enable notifications. These let us deliver messages, prevent abuse, and tie crash reports to a device without knowing who you are.
- Crash and error data: when the app misbehaves we receive technical reports (device model, OS version, what went wrong) through Sentry so we can fix it.
- Usage analytics: we collect anonymous usage events (like app opens and feature usage) through Vexo to understand what to improve.
What we don't do
- We don't ask for your name, email, photos, or contacts.
- We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- We don't show ads.
- We don't build a profile of you: your identity is randomly assigned and temporary.
Data storage
- Messages are kept for up to 180 days, then deleted automatically. They stay that long because nowhere is a shared feed, and a message has to still be there for whoever walks in after it was sent.
- Every message is stored with the location it was sent from. That is how we work out who is close enough to see it. The location is part of the message and is deleted with it after the same 180 days.
- We keep running counts of how many messages and reports the app has handled, per day and in total. They contain no message text, no location, and nothing that points back to you, and we keep them indefinitely.
Accounts and deletion
- nowhere has no user accounts. Each session starts fresh, and uninstalling the app removes your random identity from your device.
- If you want any data associated with your device removed from our systems, contact us and we will take care of it.
